Patent Attorney

- Partner with key stakeholders across the business to analyse, identify and implement business process improvements related to Intellectual Property
- Working with the teams, identifying, preparing and drafting patent applications appropriate to support the various strategies of the business
- Working with external resources and assist with managing a growing portfolio in dynamic business areas, manage external patent counsel
- Interface and collaborate with key teams such as engineering teams in Information Systems, Connected Home and DE&P, to help define business processes and support in any change that is implemented, including the IP capture processes and efficiencies
Interface and collaborate with key legal support teams
- Contribute to the growth of IP awareness and knowledge in the T&E team and the wider company community
- Directly grow the number of patent applications filed across the business
Assist with IP aspects of legal agreements
- Support growth activities and business development teams where appropriate, in particular with IP aspects of M&A and/or due diligence


Technical knowledge and experience of protecting computer related inventions
Strong analytical skills and problem solving

Pragmatic approach to problem solving, recognising that business needs may require compromises that are not the perfect ‘legal solution’

Some awareness of business administration and ‘how business works’

Credible personality, calm when under pressure and able to respond with positive attitude to difficult or testing circumstances

Self-starter, able to manage workload and prioritise demanding schedules appropriately

Able to think creatively to address existing and emerging business challenges with innovative ideas and approaches

Strong and confident interpersonal skills, with clear direction and purpose

Strong written skills, able to map workflows confidently and accurately

- University education, minimum Bachelors degree in physical sciences, computing, mathematics or similar subject
- At least 2 years as trainee patent attorney, either in private practice or industrial position

BSc (Hons) or better
Part qualified Patent Attorney (Highly preferable although not essential for the right candidate)
